Acetate vs. Triacetate Properties and Differences

topic
Acetate (DS 2.4-2.5): Tg 180-190°C, softening point 205-230°C, moisture regain 6-6.5%, soluble in acetone, tenacity 1.2-1.4 g/den. Triacetate (DS 2.9-3.0): Tg 270-280°C, softening point 290-300°C, moisture regain 3-4%, acetone-resistant (soluble only in chlorinated solvents), tenacity 1.2-1.3 g/den, superior heat resistance enabling higher processing temperatures.

Role

Degree of substitution determines thermal properties, solvent resistance, and moisture absorption—triacetate's higher DS enables permanent pleating and heat-set properties for specialty apparel.
