Acrylic Coating

category
Acrylic coatings apply aqueous dispersions of polyacrylate copolymers (40–60% solids, Tg -20°C to +30°C) via knife-over-roll, padding, or foam coating at add-on weights of 20–100 g/m², cured at 130–160°C for 2–4 minutes. Crosslinkers such as melamine-formaldehyde or carbodiimide (2–5%) improve wash fastness beyond 40 cycles (ISO 6330). Water vapor permeability of 500–2,000 g/m²/24h suits light outerwear and backpacks. UV resistance exceeds 200 hours (AATCC TM 16) without yellowing. Cost of $0.20–0.80/m² makes acrylic the most economical general-purpose coating for apparel and home textile markets.

Role

Versatile, cost-effective coating platform for water repellency, print binder, blackout curtain lining, and light-duty waterproofing across mass-market apparel, home textiles, and promotional products.
