Arc Flash and Electrical Arc Protection
topic
Arc flash testing exposes fabric specimens or garment systems to calibrated electrical arc events of defined energy, measuring transmitted heat flux with copper calorimeters and calculating the arc thermal performance value (ATPV) or energy break-open threshold (EBT) at the 50% probability of second-degree burn threshold using the Stoll curve.
Role
Provides the ATPV rating in cal/cm² that determines arc flash hazard category of electrical protective workwear under NFPA 70E and EN 61482, enabling selection of garments with sufficient arc energy absorption for specific electrical installation work hazards.
