Rieter VarioSet enables electronic adjustment of cleaning intensity (0.0 to 1.0) and degree of cleaning (1 to 10) during normal machine operation without stoppages. For Indian cotton (1 1/8 inch, 2.2% trash), changing from setting A to Z (horizontal, opening grid) increased fibre loss far more than changing from A to X (vertical, increasing roller revolutions). At setting A the trash/fibre ratio in waste was 9:1; at setting H it dropped to 2:1.
