Drying Systems and Moisture Content Control

topic
Sizing drying systems use multi-cylinder steam-heated drying arrangements with cylinders at progressively higher temperatures from 100 to 140 degrees Celsius through the drying sequence, or hot air dryers for heat-sensitive fibres, with infrared moisture sensors after drying measuring yarn moisture content in real time and adjusting drying temperature or speed to maintain the 6 to 9 percent moisture target, with over-dried yarn below 4 percent causing size brittleness and under-dried yarn above 12 percent causing beam sticking.

Role

Controls the final moisture content of sized yarn that determines size film flexibility, yarn-to-yarn adhesion in the beam, and performance consistency between different sections of the warp, with moisture control being critical because excess drying produces brittle size film that shatters under weaving abrasion and insufficient drying leaves tacky yarn that sticks to itself in the beam causing multiple end breaks when the beam is opened on the loom.
