Flame-Resistant Cotton and Natural Fibre Blends

topic
Flame-resistant cotton treated with durable phosphorus-based FR finishes or inherently FR cotton variants blended with para-aramid at 88 percent FR cotton and 12 percent para-aramid provide outer shell fabrics with acceptable thermal protection, good moisture absorption and wearer comfort, at lower cost than pure aramid systems, meeting EN 469 Level 1 requirements and used in European countries for structural firefighting clothing where minimum performance requirements are acceptable.

Role

Provides a cost-effective outer shell option for fire services with constrained procurement budgets where minimum EN 469 Level 1 performance is acceptable, with FR cotton blend systems offering better moisture absorption and softer handle than aramid systems and adequate thermal protection for less demanding structural firefighting operations, though with lower TPP values and shorter service life than premium aramid and PBI systems.
