Hybrid Dobby-Jacquard Shedding Systems
topic
Hybrid shedding systems combine dobby shaft control of the majority of warp ends with localised Jacquard control of selected end groups in the design repeat, enabling figured effects within geometric ground weaves without the full Jacquard hook count that complete individual end control requires, with the dobby controlling background and selvedge shafts and the partial Jacquard providing the design element control that creates the figured effect within the ground weave, at lower machine cost than full Jacquard.
Role
Provides an intermediate technology option between dobby and full Jacquard that enables figured design capabilities at lower capital cost for fabrics where the figured element occupies a limited portion of the warp width that can be served by a reduced-hook Jacquard combined with shaft-controlled ground, with hybrid systems being relevant for fabrics with figured borders on plain or twill grounds that do not require Jacquard control of every end position in the full fabric width.
