Jute in Green Composites and Advanced Materials

topic
Jute-reinforced composites achieve: tensile strength of 40-150 MPa (jute/polyester), flexural strength of 60-180 MPa, impact strength of 15-45 kJ/m², and 70% lower embodied energy than glass fibre composites. Applications include automotive door panels (Mercedes, BMW), construction panels, furniture components, and wind turbine blades. Jute/PLA biocomposites offer fully biodegradable alternatives.

Role

Jute composites provide cost-effective lightweighting solutions (40% weight reduction vs. glass), carbon footprint reduction (1.2 kg CO₂ absorbed per kg jute vs. 1.3 kg emitted per kg glass fibre), and end-of-life biodegradability for sustainable engineering.
