Nitrile (NBR) Oil-Resistant Coating

topic
Nitrile butadiene rubber (NBR, acrylonitrile content 28–42%) compounds are calendered or solution-coated onto woven polyester or aramid substrates at 200–600 g/m² add-on, vulcanized with sulfur systems at 155–165°C for 20–30 minutes. Oil swell resistance per ASTM D471 in ASTM Oil No. 3 is less than 20% volume change for high-ACN grades (38–42%). Tensile strength of 15–20 MPa with elongation of 200–350%. Used for oil-resistant conveyor belts, chemical protective gloves, and hose inner liners operating at temperatures of -30°C to +120°C. NBR-coated fabric for oil field applications costs $8–25/m².

Role

Critical coating material for petroleum industry conveyor systems, chemical plant protective clothing, and hydraulic hose reinforcement requiring reliable hydrocarbon barrier performance in continuous industrial service.
