Oil and Liquid Repellency Testing
topic
Oil repellency testing places droplets of a series of hydrocarbon liquids with decreasing surface tension from nujol mineral oil to n-heptane on a fabric surface for 30 seconds, recording the highest-numbered test liquid that does not penetrate or wet the surface as the AATCC 118 oil repellency rating from 1 to 8.
Role
Evaluates fluorochemical and non-fluorinated durable water repellent finishes on apparel, workwear, and table linen fabrics where resistance to oil-based stains and low-surface-tension liquids is required alongside water repellency.
