Kirschner Beaters and Pinned Bar Systems

topic
Kirschner beaters use pinned bars (pinned lags) secured to cast-iron arms, combing through the web at 800–900 rpm. They produce good opening due to high penetration and were used at the last opening position in the blowroom for good pre-opening before the card licker-in. Cleaning efficiency is high but so is fibre elimination. Modern versions use closed rollers with 4–6 pinned bars instead of three-armed beater units.

Role

While largely obsolete in modern high-performance lines, Kirschner beaters represent an important historical development in blowroom technology. Some manufacturers replaced the grid with a guide plate to create an opener without cleaning, addressing the excessive fibre loss problem.
