Polyester Fibre

sub-area
Polyester fibre is a synthetic polymer fibre made predominantly from polyethylene terephthalate (PET), produced by melt spinning the polymer into continuous filaments or staple fibres. It is the world's most widely produced synthetic fibre, accounting for over 54% of global fibre production, valued for its high tenacity, dimensional stability, wrinkle resistance, and chemical inertness.

Role

Polyester fibre is foundational to modern textile science and engineering. Its chemistry, processing, structure–property relationships, dyeing behaviour, and sustainability challenges form core academic and industrial knowledge areas spanning polymer physics, chemical engineering, coloration science, and environmental science.
