Rapier Loom Technology and Operation

category
Rapier looms insert weft yarn by threading it through the shed using one or two rigid or flexible carrying elements called rapiers that reach into the shed from one or both sides, with single-rapier systems carrying yarn from one selvedge to the other and double-rapier systems meeting at the shed centre for yarn transfer, achieving weft insertion speeds of 800 to 1500 metres per minute at loom speeds of 200 to 600 picks per minute across fabric widths of 150 to 540 centimetres.

Role

Provides the most versatile shuttleless weaving technology applicable across the widest range of yarn types from fine filament to coarse technical yarn and the broadest fabric category coverage from fine silk suiting to heavy industrial fabric, with rapier weaving dominating the global installed base of shuttleless looms from this versatility that makes it the default technology for weaving operations requiring flexibility across multiple yarn and fabric specifications.
