Ring-Spun Yarn Structure

category
Ring-spun yarn has a compact, helically twisted fibre arrangement with fibres migrating radially between the yarn core and surface during spinning, creating an interlocked structure. Yarn diameter is approximately 25.4/√(Ne × 1000) mm; fibre packing density 0.45–0.55. The surface is characterised by protruding fibre ends (hairiness, measured as Uster H or S3) and a smooth helical texture compared to open-end yarn's false-twist granular surface.

Role

Understanding ring-spun yarn structure is the bridge between spinning process parameters and fabric performance. Every fabric property — strength, pilling resistance, handle, dyeability, and durability — traces back to yarn structure, which is set during spinning. This knowledge is the foundation for product development: engineering a yarn structure to meet a specific fabric performance target.
