Silver-Coated Fibres and Antimicrobial Textiles

topic
Silver-coated nylon and polyester fibres are produced by electroless plating or physical vapour deposition of silver at 0.1 to 10 micrometres thickness onto polymer fibre surfaces, providing surface resistivity below 0.1 ohm per square, broad-spectrum antimicrobial activity from silver ion release at 0.1 to 1.0 parts per million effective concentration, and minimum inhibitory concentration efficacy against Staphylococcus aureus and E. coli.

Role

Enables dual-function antimicrobial and conductive textile yarns for sportswear odour control, wound dressing antimicrobial barriers, and e-textile electrode applications where the polymer fibre core provides textile mechanical properties and processability while the silver coating delivers electrical conductivity and biocidal silver ion release during wear and laundering.
