Social Media Curation
topic
Social media curation for creative input involves the deliberate construction of one's social media feeds as a diversity-maximizing creative input environment — actively following accounts from radically different domains, cultures, traditions, and perspectives than one's primary professional community, and explicitly resisting the algorithmic pull toward engagement-optimized content homogeneity.
Role
Social media is the creative input medium where the gap between its theoretical potential (access to the creative output and thinking of practitioners across every domain globally) and its actual delivery (algorithmically curated content that progressively narrows toward one's existing interest cluster) is greatest. The creator who deliberately follows architects, biologists, philosophers, chefs, historians, and craftspeople from cultures different from their own is constructing the cross-domain input diversity that the platform's default behavior would systematically prevent.
