Yarn Texturing Methods

topic
False-twist texturing (90% of textured yarn): POY (Partially Oriented Yarn, 2,500-3,500 m/min production) fed through (1) heater (180-220°C polyester setting molecular helices), (2) false-twist spindle (friction or pin types inserting 2,000-4,000 TPM), (3) cooling plate (setting helices), (4) untwisting (twist removed but helices remain creating bulk, stretch, softness), (5) optional heat-setting, (6) winding at 600-1,200 m/min. Draw-texturing: combined drawing and texturing (POY → DTY) in one process. Air-jet texturing: high-pressure air (5-8 bar) through venturi nozzle creating entangled loops, nodes, providing bulk without stretch (for technical textiles, sewing threads). Other methods: stuffer-box crimping (mechanical compression creating zig-zag crimp for BCF carpet yarns), knit-deknit (bicomponent or heat-set creating permanent crimp), and edge crimping.
