Thermoplastic Extrusion Coating and Film Lamination
topic
Extrusion coating applies molten thermoplastic polymer directly from a flat die extrusion system at 220 to 300 degrees Celsius onto the moving fabric surface, with the hot polymer melt bonding directly to the fabric surface fibres through thermal adhesion and mechanical interlocking as it cools and solidifies, producing PE, PP, and ionomer coated fabrics for packaging, agricultural, and industrial applications at coating weights of 10 to 100 grams per square metre.
Role
Enables high-speed continuous thermoplastic coating of technical textiles for agricultural mulch films, packaging laminates, and industrial containment fabrics at production rates of 100 to 300 metres per minute that adhesive coating systems cannot match, with extrusion coating providing the most cost-effective waterproof barrier coating for high-volume technical textile applications where thin, continuous thermoplastic layer application is the primary functional requirement.
