UHMWPE Ropes, Cables and Lines

topic
Marine and industrial ropes: 12-strand braided ropes with strengths exceeding steel wire rope at 1/7 the weight, break loads 100-500 tonnes for large diameters (100-200 mm), minimal stretch (2-4% at break), floats (specific gravity 0.97), excellent abrasion resistance with protective coatings. Applications: deep-sea mooring (oil platforms in 3000+ m water depth), tug and towing lines, sailboat rigging, fishing lines, crane cables, and synthetic lifting slings.

Role

UHMWPE enables offshore industry transition from steel wire (heavy, corrodes, stores energy causing recoil injuries) to synthetic ropes reducing handling injuries by 90%, enabling deeper water exploration (reduced weight on winches), and eliminating corrosion maintenance.
