An optical measuring device detects relative variations in the cross-section of the fibre layer on the main cylinder over the whole width. Built into the protective cover above the doffer, it measures infrared light reflection from the fibres. After comparison with a set value, a difference signal adjusts infeed speed via an electronic regulating unit and control drive.
