Mixing Batteries and Conventional Blending
topic
The mixing battery uses 2–5 mixing bale openers operating together, with opened material from all openers flowing onto a common conveyor belt. One opener is usually a waste feeder. If equipped with weighing hoppers, different components (e.g., cotton and man-made fibres) can be metered precisely. This was once the most common mixer type and is still used.
Role
Mixing batteries represent the conventional method of blending at the process start. They achieve good blends through simultaneous extraction from multiple bale sources but have been largely replaced by automatic bale openers combined with separate blending machines in modern installations.
