Web Detaching and Sliver Formation

topic
Modern high-performance cards use a take-off roller instead of the old fly-comb (which cannot exceed mechanical stroke rate limits). The web must be condensed into a sliver while still within the detaching device, using web guide plates, transverse guide rollers, or transverse sliver condenser with counter-rotating belts. Optional crushing rollers (15 N/cm pressure) can squash foreign particles in medium-to-high dirt cotton, but clean fibre should not be crushed.

Role

Detaching and sliver formation must handle the delicate web at very high speeds without disruption. The transition from free-hanging web to supported-web systems was essential for achieving modern production rates.
