Doffing: Fibre Transfer and Web Formation

topic
The doffer (600–707 mm diameter, up to 300 m/min) uses carding configuration clothing relative to the main cylinder (not doffing configuration), which is essential for web cohesion. Over 50% of fibres exhibit trailing hooks, ~15% leading hooks, ~15% double hooks. Fibres rotate with the main cylinder 5–10 (15) times before transfer to the doffer, creating additional carding, fibre-to-fibre blending, and good short-term regularity.

Role

The poor transfer efficiency between cylinder and doffer is actually advantageous: multiple rotations improve carding, intermingling, and evenness. Reducing cylinder-doffer spacing from 0.18 mm to 0.08 mm improves the transfer factor by 100%.
