Dobby Weaves and Pattern Structures

category
Dobby weaves use the dobby shedding mechanism to programme up to 32 shaft combinations per pick from a loom with 8 to 32 shafts, enabling production of geometric patterns, textured weaves, and small repeating motifs that require more than the 4 to 8 shafts of basic weave constructions while remaining within the shaft-controlled shedding capability of dobby without requiring the individual end control of Jacquard weaving.

Role

Provides the intermediate level of weaving complexity between basic multi-shaft weaving and full Jacquard figured weaving, enabling production of a wide range of geometric textured fabrics, small motif weaves, and complex compound weaves that require flexible shaft programming without the capital cost of Jacquard machinery, making dobby weaving the standard technology for suiting, shirting, and furnishing fabrics with geometric patterns too complex for 4 to 8 shaft weaving.
