Electrostatic Web Formation for Filtration Nonwovens
topic
Electrostatic charging of drylaid nonwoven webs during or after formation uses corona discharge or triboelectric charging to deposit permanent electrostatic charges on fibre surfaces that attract and retain fine particles by electrostatic forces supplementing mechanical filtration, enabling high-efficiency filtration at lower pressure drop than purely mechanical filtration of equivalent efficiency for respiratory protection and HVAC filtration applications.
Role
Enhances filtration efficiency of drylaid nonwoven filter media beyond mechanically achievable limits by adding electrostatic particle capture to the mechanical depth filtration mechanism, enabling N95 and FFP2 respiratory filter performance at face velocities where purely mechanical filtration would require fibre diameter and packing density that creates breathing resistance exceeding user tolerance limits.
