Infrared pre-dryers position ceramic or quartz emitter panels 50 to 100 millimetres above the padded fabric surface, applying radiant heat that rapidly evaporates surface moisture at the start of drying before the dye solution can migrate to the fabric surface and selvedge edges, with IR pre-drying preventing the dye migration that would occur in a hot air dryer where the slower drying rate allows capillary dye transport causing edge-to-centre shade variation.
