Kiss Roll and Lick Roll Applicators
topic
Kiss roll coating systems run a smooth applicator roll partially immersed in a compound trough at defined immersion depth and rotation speed, with the substrate passing in contact with the roll surface at a defined contact pressure that transfers a thin compound film at coat weights of 2 to 15 grams per square metre, using the compound film thickness on the roll surface and the substrate-to-roll contact pressure to control the transfer amount.
Role
Provides the simplest and lowest-capital coating method for applying thin liquid coatings including softeners, lubricants, and antistatic agents at minimal coat weights through direct roll-to-substrate contact transfer, with kiss roll systems being widely used for yarn oiling, fabric softener application, and simple functional treatment where the low coat weight and acceptable uniformity for the application justify the minimal equipment investment.
