Latex Bonding for Airlaid Nonwovens
topic
Latex binder application to airlaid webs uses spray, foam, or saturation coating with acrylic, SBR, or ethylene-vinyl acetate latex at 10 to 30 percent by weight add-on, followed by hot air curing at 130 to 160 degrees Celsius that crosslinks and cures the binder polymer to form bonds at fibre crossing points, providing tensile strength, wet strength retention, and controlled stiffness in the bonded airlaid product.
Role
Provides the primary bonding mechanism for airlaid nonwovens in wipes, absorbent, and filtration applications where latex binder application enables flexible control of bond strength, wet strength retention, and fabric softness through binder type, concentration, and application method selection that thermal bonding alone cannot achieve for the combination of properties required by multi-function wipes and absorbent products.
