Grinding Intervals and Nep Level Management

topic
First grinding after 80,000–150,000 kg; subsequent grindings every 80,000–120,000 kg for both cylinder and flats. The doffer should be ground only half as often (except for man-made fibres: more often but lighter). Licker-in clothing should not be ground but renewed after 100,000–200,000 kg. The best interval is selected based on the mill's nep limit, as each grinding reduces neps but the lower nep limit increases noticeably from one cycle to the next.

Role

Understanding grinding intervals is essential for quality planning. The progressive deterioration after each grinding (due to lower tooth height, larger lands, softer metal exposure) means clothing has a defined finite life that must be tracked for timely replacement.
