Stripping and Burnishing Practices

topic
If metallic clothing must be cleaned, use a hand scraper while rotating the cylinder manually (not by motor drive), not a revolving brush—rapidly rotating brushes cause more wear than fibre processing. Burnishing should be avoided; a single burnish wears teeth more than processing tens of thousands of kilograms. If unavoidable (e.g., poor fibre release from over-ground doffer clothing), burnish in the direction of teeth, never against. Cleaning with a hand scraper is often sufficient.

Role

These maintenance practices protect clothing investment by avoiding unnecessary accelerated wear. The counter-intuitive finding that maintenance procedures can damage clothing more than production operation emphasises the need for properly trained maintenance personnel.
