Nomex properties: tenacity 5.0 g/den (lower than para-aramid), modulus 70-80 g/den, elongation 25-30% (higher flexibility), LOI (Limiting Oxygen Index) 28-29% (excellent flame resistance), no melting point (carbonizes >370°C), dimensional stability at 250°C continuous exposure, dielectric strength 500-700 V/mil, and moisture regain 4-5%. Does not support combustion, self-extinguishes upon flame removal.
Role
Meta-aramid's combination of inherent flame resistance, thermal stability, electrical insulation, and textile processing compatibility makes it ideal for protective clothing (firefighters, industrial workers), electrical insulation (transformer paper, motor windings), and filtration (hot gas filtration in power plants).
