Aramid Fibres (Kevlar, Nomex, Twaron)

category
Aramid (aromatic polyamide) fibres are high-performance synthetic organic fibres with aromatic rings in polymer backbone, classified as para-aramid (Kevlar, Twaron—high strength/modulus) and meta-aramid (Nomex—flame resistant). Produced via solution spinning of aromatic polyamide in concentrated sulfuric acid. Global production ~100,000 tonnes annually.

Role

Combine exceptional strength-to-weight ratio, cut resistance, impact energy absorption, thermal stability, and flame resistance, dominating ballistic protection, cut-resistant gloves, tires, industrial hoses, electrical insulation, and protective apparel markets.
