Bicomponent and Microfibre Spinning
topic
Bicomponent fibres use dual-channel spinneret blocks to co-extrude two polymer streams: side-by-side (spontaneous helical crimp from differential shrinkage), sheath-core (core tenacity + sheath functional properties), islands-in-sea (0.001–0.1 dtex microfibre after sea dissolution with NaOH). Microfibre polyester (<0.3 dtex/filament) requires precise rheology matching of components.
Role
Bicomponent and microfibre spinning technology enables production of stretch fabrics (without elastane), ultra-fine suede-like fabrics, and moisture-management sports textiles that cannot be produced by conventional single-component spinning.
