Electrically Conductive Polyester Fibres
topic
Conductive PET fibres: (1) Carbon black-loaded core/PET sheath bicomponent (resistivity 10³–10⁶ Ω·cm, permanent conductivity, used in antistatic blends 1–2%); (2) Metal-coated PET (electroless Ni, Cu, Ag plating — resistivity 0.01–1 Ω·cm, for EMI shielding, e-textile electrodes); (3) Inherently conductive polymer coating (polyaniline, PEDOT:PSS — conductive after doping but poor durability); (4) Carbon nanotube composite (CNT/PET nanocomposite, resistivity 10²–10⁵ Ω·cm). Applications: ESD garments, e-textile sensors, heating fabrics, EMI shielding.
Role
Conductive polyester fibres are the materials basis of e-textiles — wearable electronics, health monitoring, smart workwear. Their fabrication, electrical characterisation, and integration into fabric structures is an important emerging interdisciplinary research area.
