Colour Fastness Properties and Testing

topic
Colour fastness of polyester: wash fastness (ISO 105-C06, rating 1–5), light fastness (ISO 105-B02, blue wool scale 1–8), sublimation/thermofixation fastness (ISO 105-P01, critical for HT processing), rubbing fastness (ISO 105-X12), perspiration fastness. Dye selection determines fastness: anthraquinone dyes → higher light fastness; azo dyes → generally lower light fastness but excellent wash fastness when small and deeply diffused.

Role

Colour fastness testing and its interpretation are central to product quality assurance in dyeing and finishing. Understanding the structural basis of fastness properties is essential for dye selection and finishing design in textile chemistry.
