Microfibre and Ultra-Fine Polyester

topic
Microfibre polyester: fineness <1 dtex/filament (cf. silk ~1.3 dtex). Production routes: (1) direct spinning using high-precision small-hole spinnerets (<0.1 mm) at controlled low throughput; (2) islands-in-sea bicomponent spinning: 16–64 PET islands in easily dissolved PET/PA or COPET sea, sea dissolved in NaOH or solvent. Ultra-fine: 0.001–0.1 dtex by electrospinning of PET solution. Properties: very high surface area, soft handle, improved cover, capillary moisture wicking.

Role

Microfibre technology defines the luxury synthetic textile category and functional sportswear. Understanding its production routes — especially islands-in-sea dissolution — is fundamental to technical textile fibre engineering.
