POY, FDY, HOY and Draw-Texturing Feed Yarns
topic
Partially oriented yarn (POY, 3000–3500 m/min, birefringence 0.055–0.075) is the primary feed for draw-texturing (DTY). Fully drawn yarn (FDY/FOY, >5000 m/min) is wound directly as flat yarn. High oriented yarn (HOY, 4000–4500 m/min) has intermediate orientation. POY properties (elongation 110–140%, birefringence, shrinkage) critically determine DTY quality and process stability in false-twist texturing.
Role
POY is the highest-volume intermediate polyester product globally. Its quality parameters (birefringence uniformity, denier CV%, oil pick-up) directly determine false-twist texturing efficiency and quality of the final textured yarn used in most polyester apparel fabrics.
