Spinning Process Variations (FDY, HOY, BCF)
topic
Fully drawn yarn (FDY) combines spinning and drawing in one step at 4,000–6,000 m/min. Highly oriented yarn (HOY) is spun at >6,000 m/min with sufficient orientation to skip separate drawing. Bulked continuous filament (BCF) for carpets uses air-jet texturing during spinning. Each variant modifies the standard melt spinning process to produce fibres with specific property profiles.
Role
Understanding process variations enables selection of the most efficient production route for each end-use requirement. The trend toward integrated spinning-drawing-texturing processes reduces production steps and capital investment.
