Staple Fibre Production and Tow Processing
topic
Staple fibre production: multifilament tow (100,000–500,000 dtex) from multiple spinning positions is collected, drawn in steam/hot-water draw baths (80–95°C) at draw ratio 3–4×, crimped in gear crimper (12–18 crimps/cm), heat-set (120–140°C), cut to staple length (32–64 mm for cotton system, 60–150 mm for wool system), and baled. Bicomponent staple with helical crimp uses side-by-side PET/PTT or PET/CoPET.
Role
Staple fibre production parameters determine crimp frequency, fibre fineness, cut length, and mechanical properties — all critical for blending behaviour with natural fibres and performance in carding, combing, and ring spinning.
