Release Coating Application Technology
topic
Silicone release coating systems apply 0.5 to 2.0 grams per square metre of addition-cure or condensation-cure silicone by gravure or multi-roll application onto paper, film, or fabric substrates, cured in hot air ovens at 120 to 180 degrees Celsius or UV-cured for solventless systems, providing a low-surface-energy release layer with defined release force for pressure-sensitive adhesive laminate separation in labels, tapes, and medical wound dressings.
Role
Creates the controlled release surface required for pressure-sensitive adhesive product construction by applying minimum silicone coat weight that provides adequate release performance without silicone migration to the adhesive that would reduce adhesion, with release coat weight and cure degree being the critical parameters governing release force consistency and the absence of silicone transfer contamination that would compromise adhesive performance in medical and electronic applications.
