Ring spinning rooms are maintained at 55–65% relative humidity and 26–30°C. Cotton fibre moisture content of 7–8% (at 65% RH) is optimal for spinning: adequate moisture reduces fibre brittleness and static, improving spinning performance. Below 50% RH, static electricity causes fibre fly and sliver clumping; above 70% RH, fibre stickiness increases end breakages and roller lapping. Humidity variation across a frame (±3% RH) causes twist variation and count variation.

Role

Environmental control is the invisible foundation of consistent ring spinning quality. Seasonal humidity variation in mills without air conditioning accounts for 20–30% variation in end-breakage rates and explains why yarn quality deteriorates in summer (hot, humid) and winter (cold, dry) seasons. Understanding humidity-performance relationships enables engineers to specify HVAC requirements and to anticipate and compensate for seasonal quality variation.
