Traveller Clearer and Fly Generation

topic
Traveller clearers are fixed or rotating brushes/blades that remove fly and fibre accumulations from the traveller and ring flange during spinning. Accumulated fly increases friction between traveller and ring, raising traveller temperature and accelerating wear. Fly generation rate (mg/kg yarn) depends on fibre type (cotton produces more fly than synthetic), traveller speed, and yarn hairiness. Room-level fly management involves both traveller clearers and centralised air filtration.

Role

Fly generation and traveller cleaner performance directly affect ring frame cleanliness, which is a primary determinant of end-breakage rate in high-speed spinning. Fly accumulation on ring flanges doubles effective friction within 2–4 hours of operation, progressively increasing breakages. Understanding fly management is essential for maintaining consistent productivity across a shift.
