Traveller and Ring

category
The traveller is a small C-shaped metal clip running on the flange of a steel ring (ring diameter 38–54 mm for cotton), completing approximately 95–98% of the spindle speed, the difference accounting for yarn wind-on. Traveller weight (1–50 mg) determines yarn tension in the balloon. Traveller material is hardened carbon steel or special alloys; ring material is hardened chrome or ceramic-coated steel for low friction and heat resistance.

Role

The traveller-ring system is the speed-limiting component of ring spinning and the primary maintenance cost item. Traveller wear, heat, and fly-off directly determine spindle speed limits and end-breakage rates. Selecting the correct traveller weight and profile for each yarn count is one of the most practical and high-impact skills in ring spinning management.
