Traveller Profile and Cross-section
topic
Traveller cross-section profiles include: flat (F), elliptical (EL), semi-round (HR), and special profiles for synthetic fibres. Profile determines the contact geometry with the ring flange, affecting heat generation, wear rate, and yarn passage angle. For cotton: flat and elliptical profiles are standard; for synthetic fibres: special smooth profiles are used to reduce fibre damage. Traveller profiles are standardised by major manufacturers (Braecker, Kanai, Reiners).
Role
Traveller profile selection for synthetic and blended yarns is a critical technical decision because incorrect profiles cause fibre damage (cutting of synthetic filaments), generating yarn faults that are invisible in grey fabric but appear clearly after dyeing. Understanding profile geometry prevents costly quality failures when spinning polyester-cotton blends.
