Yarn Suitability for Air-Jet Insertion

topic
Air-jet insertion requires weft yarns with adequate aerodynamic properties for entrainment and transport by the air jet, limiting suitable yarn types to spun yarns up to Ne 6 cotton count, filament yarns including textured polyester and flat nylon, and smooth low-mass yarns; hairy, loopy, or heavy yarns including fancy, chenille, slub, and coarse technical yarns have poor aerodynamic characteristics causing insertion reliability problems.

Role

Defines the weft yarn range compatible with air-jet insertion that limits air-jet loom application to smooth spun and filament yarns in light to medium fabric weights, with yarn hairiness, surface texture, and linear density governing the aerodynamic behaviour that determines insertion reliability, and incompatible yarn types requiring rapier or projectile insertion for acceptable weft insertion efficiency.
