Chute Compression and Material Height Control
topic
When a card ceases operation, all compression of material in the chute must be terminated (whether by compressed air or vibrating plate). Otherwise, remaining material becomes over-compressed, and when operation restarts the resulting sliver will be too heavy over a significant period. Electronic pressure regulators ensure approximately constant height of material in the reserve chute, while pressure switches in the feed chute ensure constant filling density.
Role
Compression control is critical for consistent sliver weight, particularly during start-stop transitions. This seemingly simple requirement has significant practical impact on sliver evenness and is a key design consideration for chute systems.
