Conventional Feed Device (Feed Plate and Roller)

topic
The conventional feed assembly comprises a stationary feed plate with a deflector nose (b) and guide surface (a), plus a feed roller (80–100 mm diameter) with saw-tooth wire directed against material flow. A sharp deflector nose gives good fibre retention and intensive opening but less gentle treatment; an over-rounded curve gives poor retention causing licker-in to tear out whole clumps.

Role

The feed device design critically affects opening quality and waste elimination. Guide surface length affects fibre take-up: too short allows fibres to escape and be lost as waste; too long presses fibres into clothing, improving take-up but reducing cleaning effect.
