Cross-Machine Feed Distribution
topic
Tufts must be transported pneumatically from a distributor unit into chutes of several cards, with one card always very close to the fan while others are at increasing distances. To obtain even feeding, batts in all individual feed chutes must be equally thick, evenly distributed over the whole width, and of equal density. The airflow in the chute continually carries tufts to the zone where the perforated sheet is least covered by fibres.
Role
Cross-machine uniformity ensures all cards in the line produce sliver of the same quality. The self-regulating nature of the perforated-sheet system provides inherent evening of the cross-width profile, but the pneumatic distribution between cards remains a design challenge.
