Cylinder-Doffer Clothing Coordination

topic
Main cylinder and doffer clothing populations must be adapted to each other. The carding configuration at the cylinder-doffer interface means fibre transfer is somewhat random, favoured by the cylinder due to flat pressure pushing fibres into cylinder clothing and the cylinder having more points. Transfer factor can be improved by coordinating clothing, proper peripheral speed relationships, and small distances (reducing from 0.18 mm to 0.08 mm improves transfer by 100%).

Role

Cylinder-doffer clothing coordination determines web quality, fibre hook formation, and the number of fibre rotations on the cylinder. Doffer clothing is typically 340 points/inch² (universal) or 400 points/inch² (fine fibres), significantly less dense than cylinder clothing.
