Material Transport Systems
category
Blowroom machines are connected by mechanical and pneumatic transport systems. Mechanical transport (conveyor belts, lattices, spiked lattices) is limited to forwarding within machines. Between machines, transport is exclusively pneumatic, using air at 10–15 m/sec (never exceeding 20–24 m/sec) through closed ducting with a fan creating partial vacuum.
Role
Transport systems connect the sequence of blowroom machines and influence material quality through turbulent airflow that can cause tuft entangling and nep formation in long ducts. Pneumatic transport also provides an important side effect of dust removal and fibre conditioning.
